Student at Smithtown High School East charged for using weapon to menace classmate, police say

Suffolk County police arrested a Smithtown high school student on Friday for allegedly threatening a classmate with a weapon on Thursday, a statement from the agency said.
The 17-year-old student was arrested at Smithtown High School East. Police have not identified the underaged suspect or provided additional details about his arrest.
It is unclear what weapon he used, how the student threatened his classmate, what led up to the confrontation or how the police were notified. It is also unclear why the student was not arrested until a day after the alleged crime occurred.
The student was charged with menacing in the second degree. He was given a desk appearance ticket and is due in Central Islip’s youth court at some point in the future, although police did not specify when the teen is scheduled to be arraigned.
