Two teenage boys were shot on Monday evening while sitting in a parked vehicle in Brentwood, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

A 15-year-old was shot in the hand and a 17-year-old in the leg, according to a department news release, which says the injuries aren't life-threatening.

The shooting happened around 7 p.m., on Madison Avenue near Hewes Street, as the victims and another male were in the parked car, the release said.

A second car pulled up with at least three people in it, police said.

"One of the males in the second vehicle exited the car and began shooting at the first," the release said, adding: "The first vehicle accelerated in reverse and fled the scene."

The vehicle with the shooter drove away, and the vehicle with the victims drove about two miles to Bay Shore, police said. Then, police were called; the release doesn't say who called.

The release doesn't say whether anyone was in custody, provide a potential motive or disclose other specifics of the shooting.

The names of the shooting victims weren't disclosed.
