Pedestrian fatally struck by drug-impaired driver on Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore, Suffolk police say

A Bellport man was charged with driving while impaired by drugs after, Suffolk police said, he struck and killed a man walking off Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore on Friday.
Police said the man was walking east on the Sunrise Highway Service Road near the Brentwood Road overpass around 5:18 a.m. when he was fatally struck by a 2008 Mercedes C350 driven by Andrew Holmes Garriques, 27.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Police will identify him after his family has been notified, police said in a news release.
Holmes Garriques and a woman riding in the Mercedes were not injured in the crash.
Police charged Holmes Garriques with driving while ability impaired. He was scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday
Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call detectives at 631-852-6553.
