A truck traveling on Sunrise Highway struck an overpass at Fifth Avenue in Bay Shore late Monday morning, forcing the temporary closure of all westbound lanes with traffic diverted onto the service road in the area, Suffolk County police said.

The incident occurred at about 11:40 a.m., but all lanes of the highway were reopened in the mid-afternoon.

Police said the incident also closed the northbound lanes of Fifth Avenue on the bridge.

Photos showed New York State Department of Transportation crews on the scene assessing damage to the bridge — and at least one of the supporting girders bent and visibly damaged as a result of the impact. It was not immediately clear Monday if the damage can be repaired, or if the road will be reopened anytime soon.

Before all the lanes of Sunrise Highway were reopened in the afternoon, traffic cameras on the official NYSDOT 511NY website showed traffic snarled east of the bridge, as police diverted vehicles onto the service road.

Police said there were no reported serious injuries related to the incident.
