One Long Island woman’s new year is off to a rich start after she claimed a $1 million prize from the New York Lottery.
Carrie Machinist, of Patchogue, was one of 15 winners whose tickets were selected for a $1 million cash prize, part of the lottery’s promotional Million Dollar Raffle, which commemorates the Erie Canal bicentennial, the lottery announced on its website last month.
The winning ticket for the drawing that was held on Oct. 26 was purchased at Conoco Quick Stop at 626 Rte. 112 in Patchogue. The store received a $5,000 bonus for selling a top-prize ticket for the event.
Machinist, who recently claimed her prize, received a one-time, lump sum payment of $651,006, the lottery website said.
Other top-prize winning raffle tickets were sold in the Bronx and Chenango, Dutchess, Genesee, New York, Queens, Schenectady, Suffolk, and Westchester counties.
