NBC’s roster for the NHL’s return to the Winter Olympics in February will have a strong New York-area flavor.
The network announced on Thursday that its lead hockey play-by-play announcer, including for Team USA men’s and women’s games and the medal rounds, will be Kenny Albert, the Rangers’ television play-by-play man for MSG Networks. Other games will be called by Brendan Burke, the Islanders’ TV play-by-play voice.
It will be the seventh Olympics for Albert and the third for Burke. Albert will work with analysts Ed Olczyk for men’s games and AJ Mleczko for women’s games.
Albert, Burke and other announcers NBC will deploy were part of its NHL announcing team before the league left the network after the 2020-21 season following a 16-year run.
NHL players will participate in the Olympic tournament for the first time since 2014. The Games are set for northern Italy from Feb. 6-22.
