Long Islander Kayla Mitchell was eliminated from “MasterChef: Dynamic Duos” on Wednesday’s show, along with her partner, Ryan Kate Brandenburg.

The 22-year-old contestant from Center Moriches made it to the top nine duos on the Fox reality competition series, judged by Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Tiffany Derry.

Mitchell and Texas' Brandenburg, also 22, both alumnae of season 3 of “MasterChef Junior,” returned to the franchise this season as a team, making it their second time in the "MasterChef" kitchen. The duo landed in the bottom three this week and became the fourth pair eliminated from the season after a challenge that tested their communication skills.

In the challenge, “Recipe Telephone,” teams had to communicate entirely through their cooking. One partner started the dish with 30 minutes in the kitchen, then swapped out with their teammate, who had to complete the dish relying only on visual cues left at the workstation to complete the plate, no talking allowed.

Mitchell and Brandenburg prepared filet mignon with garlic potatoes, roasted asparagus, honey-glazed carrots and chimichurri sauce. The judges were critical of the execution.

Ramsay criticized the unorganized look of the dish and said the steak was overcooked. Derry remarked that Mitchell appeared to take on too much of the workload, while Brandenburg didn’t contribute enough. Bastianich noted that the dish suffered from basic technical errors.

The final moments of the challenge were hectic, with some duos finishing confidently and others struggling. In the end, Mitchell and Brandenburg were sent home.

“I'm just feel really disappointed, but we put our all out there. I’m proud of us for getting everything on the plate,” Mitchell said in an exit interview.

"Of course it doesn't feel good, but I'm definitely not disappointed in our team," Brandenburg added. "If anything, this competition made our friendship stronger."

The duo had received praise in the previous episode for their dessert during the first Pressure Test of the season. This week’s performance wasn’t enough to save them.

Next week, the remaining eight pairs will cook for a VIP fine dining experience aboard a moving train as they continue to vie for the $250,000 prize.
