If variety is the spice of life, then the Hamptons retail scene is particularly spicy this season, with its quirky blend of mainstream stores along with some unexpected adds. Among these, fashion-forward Mary Jane shoes from Spanish company Flabelus. There’s a new Dick’s Sporting Goods boutique (yes, a boutique) that will entirely change up the mix and the storefront graphics as the season moves on. Zhuzh up your existing wardrobe with the saucy, modern looks from Generation Love. And while you’re at it, get that must-have Hamptons blowout (and so much more) from Julie Farel Restore Salon’s big, new beauty hub.

For the younger set, tweens and teens will likely go bonkers for the new KatieJNYC store, where hanging out is encouraged. All that and an extraordinary high-end art studio for kids that will fire up imaginations and keep them busy.

Have a look at the new shopping opportunities:

East Hampton

Dick's Sporting Goods

67 Main St.

It’s a boutique-style shop for the megagiant sporting goods chain at a mere 1,800-square feet, dubbed a "rotational pop-up," during which the company will change over the merchandise and storefront signage three times this summer.

May through June 28, it’s all about Walter Hagen + Maxfli Golf, with the focus on golf apparel and accessories. Find tour-quality golf balls, bags and gloves along with plenty of golf clothes for men and women. From July 2 through Aug. 23, the store becomes coastal-inspired, spotlighting women with Calia's lifestyle pieces, swim collection, fitness apparel and accessories. Starting Aug. 27 through Oct. 18 (when the store closes), the theme is "Back to Sporthood" and highlights a family-driven array that hails school spirit with back-to-school needs for everyday wear and athletic endeavors.

Add to the mix brand activations including happy hours, pro-led master classes and meet-and-greets with top golfers. Says Aimee Watters, the vice president of vertical brand marketing for the company, "With a rotating assortment of product all season long, we hope the store becomes a gathering place for the community.”

Southampton

Flabelus

60 Jobs Lane

A latecomer last season, this is a shoe company with a distinctive point of view. Women, men and kids will relish slipping into the comfort of this Spanish footwear brand—– a fresh and modern take on traditional Venetian slippers—– in eco-friendly materials with recycled bicycle tire soles. The 700-year-old style (the original espadrille), once worn by peasants, is today a chic seaside essential.

The brand’s signature Mary Janes (starting at $185) for women are coveted, turned out in velvet, satins and brilliant colors such as sapphire blue and ruby red. For men, a purist, unadorned silhouette can be worn with khakis or even a tux (these sell for $176) and kiddies will love romping in shrunken sizes ($156).

Julien Farel Restore Salon

43 Windmill Lane

Get Hamptons glammed at this swanky 3,000-square-foot beauty mecca (formerly La Carezza Salon) acquired in April by husband-and-wife beauty industry team Julien and Suelyn Farel. This is their third such destination — one is in the New York Loews Regency hotel and another in Palm Beach. The French-born Julien Farel (he’s the sort of a hairstylist that might don a sleek Italian suit to cut your coif) has styled the likes of Martha Stewart, Sienna Miller and Kate Moss. "I have always loved the Hamptons from the morning serenity to the buzzy nightlife," he says.

Westhampton Beach

Generation Love

126 Main St.

In this light-filled, 1,300-square-foot pop-up (open through Oct. 31), a backdrop of written affirmations such as "Today is a good day to have a good day" fills a wall, and customers can write their own happy thoughts. But it’s the clothes — touted as "French chic meets New York Edge" that are the star of the show. The brand, which was founded in 2008 by Roni Hirshberg and Audrey Bressa, is known for its elevated separates and feminine colors (a big emphasis on pink here, including the shopping bags) and the spring/summer collection will enhance Hamptons wardrobes and beyond.

In sizes 00-14, find a halter top with polished hardware at the neckline ($195), silky blouses with built-in scarves ($215), lace cardigans ($315), embroidered daisy dappled jeans ($295), crystal peppered sweatsuit separates ($198) and sexy dressy dresses ($295). Added to the mix, a new girls collection (small to tween), BuDhaGirl jewelry, books, totes, trucker hats and thirsty Turkish towels.

Not nearby? The store will offer concierge delivery service in the Hamptons. As a small gift with purchase, everyone will receive a ribbon printed with a thoughtful affirmation to affix to a bag, top or wrist as a bracelet. Says marketing director Hayley Beard, "It’s supposed to feel like you stopped off Main Street and walked into a place of positivity."

ColorPop Workshop

3 Sunset Ave., Unit J

There’s always a "nothing-to-do" rainy day in summer or a child who may prefer art to sports, and Tiffany Rafii  the co-owner of ColorPop Workshop has the fix.

The fourth location for this venture (two are in Manhattan, another opened midsummer in Southampton last year), Rafii dubs this authentic art studio for kids ages 4 to 12 as "a place to do real art and play with material I wouldn’t love in my house," including plaster and joint compound. The instruction is high-end and specialized, says Rafii, with a ratio of one artist, many of them professional, to six kids. She calls the projects engaging, "confidence-building" and a way to improve fine motor skills.

This studio, operated by professional artists, offers projects such as functional flower-stemmed lamps and faux food clay sculptures, including pies, pizza and sushi. Credit: ColorPop Workshop

The activities go way beyond painting a basic plate and include everything from sculptural functioning light fixtures that look like flowers, faux pie clocks and even decorating ("Bridgerton"-style) fake cakes (courtesy of a real-life baker), pizza and creating life-like clay sushi displays. The cheery interior features worktables, murals and, says Rafii, "an upbeat vibe." Outside the workshop, the fun continues with the ColorPop Slime Shop, a faux but realistic-looking ice cream shop. In lieu of ice cream, that gooey (and beloved) slime will be sold along with faux cones, cups and toppings. ColorPop offers drop-ins ($60 per hour, $85 for two), full day sessions ($150 per day) and a weeklong camp ($675) that runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.. Parents are asked to drop off their kids.

Tween and teen girls will rejoice at this new pop-up that welcomes them to hang out and shop. Dubbed the Katie J beach house, the small store — just under 1,000 square feet, offers everything from jean shorts, sweats, bathing suits, dresses, pajamas and undergarments that company president Zina Zegans calls "the perfect mix of approved by daughters and mothers."

Founded in 2017 by Shari Fine, of Roslyn, with one bra to make her then-tween daughter, Katie, feel comfortable and confident, the brand has experienced seismic growth. There’s a seaside vibe in the shop, with its white-washed wood shingles, surfboard display and comfy back deck. For fun, there will be plenty of activities for girls, including an iron-on patch bar, charms for shoes and even a press-on nail collaboration with Olive & June.

A floral handkerchief top is $59.50; a cropped sweatshirt $68.50; denim lace-trimmed shorts, $68, pajama sets $77.50, and a frothy maxi dress, $130. Zegans hopes the place will be a haunt for socializing, saying, "There are plenty of spaces for your TikTok and Snapchat moments."
