Sea La Vie Vintage is a new Long Beach boutique with a clever name and a surprising location. In July, Cassie Justice and her husband Tom launched their store inside The Chop Shop, a hairstyling studio that opened in 2017.

“It’s a collaboration between us and the salon,” says Cassie, 38, adding that the beauty shop's owners, sisters Prisha Szachacz and Christina Martin, snipped some chairs to make space for them. “We curated a boutique within their space that complements their business.”

“A source of traffic is really helpful to a new business,” adds Cassie. “And when you’re getting your hair done, there can be a lot of dwell time.”

As a result of the creative collab, the boutique has a built-in flow of customers, and salon clients can shop before, during and after a hair appointment. Win-win.

Sea La Vie Vintage is a brand expansion of the Justice’s 4-year-old Sea City Vintage in Atlantic Beach. It’s the latest venture for the couple who met at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, where she majored in event management and he studied marketing. She’s from South Carolina. He’s from East Atlantic Beach, where they live with their 3- and 5-year-olds.

Sea La Vie Vintage features clothing, jewelry, accessories, art and home decor. “There’s a wide mix,” says Cassie, who’s taken the lead in establishing the new venture. “In addition to our items, we have other vintage vendors in the space with us.”

The collective includes Tradewinds and Noelle’s Nostalgia for women’s clothing and Jupiter Sky Creations and Impulse Control Vintage for jewelry.

Clothing runs around $35-$75, jewelry is typically priced $55-$155 and home decor and art sells for about $45-$125.

Programs set for fall at Sea La Vie Vintage are posted on Instagram. An upcoming candle-making workshop is set for Nov.1. Tickets are $60.

“Event management is a big part of our business model,” says Cassie. “We host vintage markets in Long Beach all summer. That’s how we met the other vendors at Sea La Vie.”
