Passover events on Long Island: Celebrate with community

Long Islanders are gathering across the Long Island to celebrate Passover, with the first seder on April 1. Here are events to check out before the holiday concludes on April 9.
Festive events
Through March 31 and April 1 and 9: Join dinner with dancing at The Suffolk Y JCC

Join a seder luncheon followed by dancing, noon to 2:30 p.m. March 27; The center hosts a post-Passover event featuring a Mimouna celebration, a return to eating chametz (leavened bread), with a Moroccan musical presentation with Mor Schwartz (adults only) at 8 p.m. April 9 ($25), bring your own bottle of wine; Shop for gifts at the Passover boutique in the lobby, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through March 31; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 1. Passover gourmet cooking demonstration, take holiday recipes home to share with family and friends, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 16 in the lobby.

March 22: Make a craft at Long Island Children's Museum

The drop-in program focuses on the traditions of Passover. Kids will be hiding and finding the afikomen (a piece of matzo that is hidden during the seder), 1 to 3 p.m. March 22.

March 27: Shop at a themed-market at Sid Jacobson JCC

The Israeli market features vendors selling Passover-themed and Judaica items, as well as food vendors, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. located in the lobby. Join a Shabbat dinner from 5 to 7 p.m.

April 4-9: Reflect on the past at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County

The educational center focuses on the lessons of the Holocaust through exhibits, archives, artifacts and tours, noon to 4 p.m. April 4-5; 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 6-9.
