Tiramisu, the Italian dessert, is one of those confections people obsess about. If you’re one them, we have some good news: Bisqo, a Dubai-based dessert brand, has opened its first tiramisu cafe in the United States, in Hicksville.

Located next to Apna Bazaar, this new spot is serving decadent cold treats and coffee drinks flavored — and in some cases topped — with espresso-soaked biscuits and vanilla cream. For the unfamiliar, tiramisu is made with ladyfingers, or savoiardi, the Italian biscuit that gives the dessert its structure. The long, fingerlike biscuits, which start dry, are soaked in espresso to become spongy, almost cakelike. Layered with a fluffy mascarpone and vanilla cream, topped with cocoa powder, Bisqo uses tiramisu as a base flavor for all its creations. Containing no alcohol, an ingredient often found in traditional tiramisu recipes, Bisqo uses house-made biscuits in lieu of ladyfingers, and all creams are made on-site.

Founded in the United Arab Emirates last year, the Hicksville store will offer the same menus as in Dubai, featuring classic slices of tiramisu, soft serve, frappes, handcrafted espresso drinks and matcha. The most basic option is the misu cup ($7.99), which is a straight slice of tiramisu. You can enhance that with a scoop of hand-churned tiramisu ice cream or soft serve — served in a waffle cone or a cup ($11.99) or have the ice cream on its own ($6.99). The most indulgent choice is the Overload Misu, a tiramisu frappe topped with coffee crema, a full piece of tiramisu, and an espresso-soaked biscuit ($11.99). Served with a spoon and a straw, it’s the messiest option on the menu, as well as the most delicious. Drip coffee drinks include espressos ($2.99), Americanos ($3.99) and lattes ($4.99 and up), made with freshly ground beans, as well as icy frappes ($7.99 and up) without the overload. If you’re a matcha fan, the same menu is available with matcha powder, as opposed to cocoa powder, for a $1 upcharge.

"I discovered Bisqo in Dubai, and I couldn't stop thinking about it — I knew I had to bring it here," said Tahmina Mashriqi, co-owner of Bisqo. The 1,000-square-foot cafe is serene and modern, washed in warm beige tones, inspired by the color of the biscuit itself. With seating for 25, the New York-based team behind the Hicksville shop holds franchising rights in the United States, the first step in a planned national expansion.
