Review: Edoardo's Trattoria in Huntington

The intimate spot that is Edoardo’s Trattoria can barely contain chef-owner Edoardo Erazo’s protean talents: He makes all the pasta, bread and pastries; he curates one of Long Island’s most appealing wine lists — with two dozen well-chosen (and well-priced!) Italian selections available by the glass or bottle. His modest style can be seen in the rustic elegance of the decor and the simple refinement of every dish.

But getting back to that pasta. The regular menu lists seven; there might be as many as four more specials. None disappoint. Among the most celebrated is the uovo in raviolo, one giant pillow of pasta stuffed with ricotta, spinach and a whole egg yolk that, when pierced, runs into the plate’s puddle of truffle butter. Or opt for linguine al limone (with shrimp in a zesty lemon sauce), pappardelle alla Bolognese or gnocchi with Barolo-braised short ribs. (Fresh pasta is also for sale.)

The menu changes seasonally, but you might well find antipasti such as crostini with roasted pepper and Sicilian white anchovies; bresaola (air-dried beef) with grapefruit, pistachio and lemon; prawns with snap peas and pancetta. Mains include Dover sole in a white wine-caper sauce and pork chop Valdostana (filled with ham, spinach and Fontina). The two-course, $28 lunch special — comprising slightly smaller portions than the dinner menu — has got to be one of the best in town.

Tip:
With its two-course, $28 menu, Edoardo's is a lunchtime gem.
Edoardo’s son, Adi, has been upgrading the restaurant’s bar program which now features a number of elegant cocktails. And don’t forget the dessert menu (especially the delizioso di limone, a dome of sponge cake filled and blanketed with lemon cream). There’s absolutely no reason why you can’t show up after you’ve had dinner elsewhere and enjoy a dolce and a digestivo at the bar.
