National Coffee Day deals on Long Island

Your morning jolt might be cheaper than usual — or even free — thanks to National Coffee Day.

The unofficial celebration has been marked annually by chains and independent retailers since its launch roughly a decade ago.

Among the businesses offering bargains, giveaways and newly introduced items are Dunkin’ Donuts, where purchases made today through the app come with a free medium hot or iced coffee. The chain is also collaborating with L.L. Bean, offering limited-edition items on LLBean.com/dunkin while supplies last; Krispy Kreme, which is running a $5 deal for a dozen Original Glazed Coffee Flavored doughnuts — a new variety — with purchase of a regular-priced dozen. Convenience store chain 7-Eleven is selling $1.49 large coffees for loyalty members and $1 packs of 7-Select mini doughnuts. At participating Dairy Queens, customers can enjoy a small DQ Coffee Cooler for $3 through Nov. 1

Stop & Shop will offer customers a free 48-ounce bottle of Stop & Shop Ready-to-Drink Cold Brew Coffee in one of three flavors: Unsweetened Medium Roast, Dark Roast or Dark Roast Espresso. Shoppers can head to a Savings Station kiosk for a digital coupon in their GO Rewards account.

Try something new at Starbucks, which is introducing a new air-whipped espresso called an Aerocano.

If you want to boost the day at a coffee shop, check out several new Long Island spots that recently opened.

The origins of National Coffee Day are unclear. The International Coffee Organization, a trade group under the United Nations, announced International Coffee Day in 2015. Both the U.N. and the coffee group, however, officially recognize the day as Oct. 1 even though Sept. 29 has come to be the widely recognized day.
