A Uniondale man was charged on Wednesday in the attempted kidnapping of an 11-year-old boy, Nassau police said.
Nelson A. Acevedo, 51, of Maple Grove Avenue, was arrested and charged after police said they received a report that an unknown man had approached the boy shortly after 4 p.m. on Monday on a sidewalk near the intersection of Chester and Front streets in Uniondale.,
The child was approached by the man, who offered him money in an attempt to lure him into a nearby home, police said. When the victim refused and tried to walk away, Acevedo took hold of the boy's wrist, trying to prevent him from escaping, police said.
The boy managed to break free, police said, and quickly walked away; no injuries were reported.
Police found and arrested Acevedo on Wednesday afternoon.
He was charged with attempted kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.
Acevedo was arraigned on Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead, where he pleaded not guilty, bail was set at $250,000 bond or $625,000 bond and a temporary order of protection was issued. He was represented by the Legal Aide Society.
