An Islip woman was charged with driving while intoxicated after she crashed her car into an ambulance that was loading a patient in Bay Shore early Sunday, Suffolk police said.
An injured 26-year-old Islip man was being loaded into the back of an Islip Fire Department ambulance
with its emergency lights flashing on Main Street east of Third Avenue when the woman's 2017 Honda Accord
crashed into it at about 2:15 a.m., police said.
A second ambulance was dispatched to transport the patient to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening
injuries. There were no other injuries at the scene, police said.
Edith Cairo, 32, of Islip, was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.
She was held overnight at the Third Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Sunday.
