Cyle Ashby, of Medford, killed in Middle Island motorcycle crash, police say

A motorcyclist was killed when he crashed into trees Tuesday evening along a wooded roadway of Middle Island, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
The man, identified as 53-year-old Cyle Ashby of nearby Medford, was southbound around 7 p.m. on Ashton Road when he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding, left the roadway near Sylvia Lane and struck multiple trees, the department wrote in a news release. A passing motorist called 911, the police press office wrote in an email.
Ashby was brought to NYU Langone Hospital – Suffolk in Patchogue and declared dead.
Where he was coming from and going to are under investigation, police said.
According to the University at Albany-based Institute for Traffic Safety Management & Research, there were 188 fatal motorcycle crashes in New York State in 2024, the latest year for which complete statistics are available.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data show that motorcyclists are roughly 28 times more likely than the occupants of passenger cars to die in crashes, per vehicle miles traveled.
