The Nassau County police and animal welfare officials said they discovered 21 dogs "in various stages of neglect" in a Manorhaven boarding facility.

The business, located at 144 Shore Rd, sits between a Turkish restaurant and a massage parlor and regularly boards animals, the police said. It was being "used as a business for boarding dogs," the police said in a news release, which did not identify the business.

About 11 p.m. on Saturday night, police in the Sixth Squad responded to a call about sick animals and found the dogs in need of care authorities said.

Nassau County SPCA and North Hempstead Animal Control also responded to the address and removed all the dogs.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
