A Greenport man is charged with sending what police described as "an indecent photo" to a person he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.
Suffolk police said Digital Forensic Unit detectives launched an investigation after being notified that Corey Hooks, 37, had gone to a Holtsville golf driving range to meet someone he believed to be the teen. An investigation showed Hooks had child pornography on his phone, police said.
The Holtsville meeting occurred on May 26. Hooks was arrested at his home in Greenport on Monday, police said.
Police did not detail who the alleged "indecent" photo had been sent to, who set up the meeting with Hooks or who filed the complaint that detectives investigated en route to making the arrest.
Hooks was charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child, possessing a sexual performance by a child, attempted endangering the welfare of a child and attempted dissemination of indecent material. He was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct in Selden and was scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Central Islip.
It was not immediately clear if Hooks is represented by counsel.
