Joseph Norton, of Manorville, charged with murder in stabbing death of homeless man

A Manorville man was charged Monday with murder after he stabbed a homeless man to death in Medford, Suffolk police said.
Joseph Norton, 20, stabbed Timothy Stark in the back during an altercation at Express Drive South at Route 112 about 3:30 p.m. and fled the scene in a vehicle, police said.
Stark, 32, who police said was homeless, was transported to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead.
A short time after the stabbing, patrol officers found Norton at the intersection of Yaphank Avenue and Horseblock Road in Yaphank and took him into custody.
Norton was charged with second-degree murder. He was held overnight and ordered jailed without bail following arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip, where he pleaded not guilty. The case is based on witness accounts, according to a felony complaint against Norton.
The phone number for the lawyer assigned to him by the court, Peter Mayer, of Hauppauge, rang unanswered Tuesday.
