Guilty plea in wrong-way, 2025 Dix Hills crash that injured five

A Dix Hills man has pleaded guilty to fleeing the scene of an accident last year and then driving the wrong way on Deer Park Avenue while high on marijuana before causing a multi-vehicle crash that injured five people, Suffolk prosecutors said.

Miandad Khan, 38, pleaded guilty Friday to aggravated vehicular assault; two counts of second-degree assault; driving while ability impaired by drugs and third-degree assault.

Khan is due back in court on Oct. 30 when State Supreme Court Justice John Collins is expected to sentence him to two to six years in prison, prosecutors said.

"This defendant not only drove while impaired and hit another vehicle, but he then tried to flee the scene by speeding into oncoming traffic — causing a second collision and then a third, leaving behind multiple injured victims and wrecked vehicles," said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney. "The guilty plea secured by my office ensures he is held accountable for his blatant disregard for other people's safety."

William Keahon, Khan's Hauppauge-based defense attorney, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

On May 17, 2025, at approximately 3:20 p.m., Khan was driving his silver 2016 Mercedes-Benz E350 northbound on Deer Park Avenue in Deer Park when he struck a white 2020 Acura near the intersection of Jacqueline Way, court records show.

Immediately following the minor crash, Khan fled from the scene and sped over the landscape center median into the opposite lane of traffic, prosecutors said.

As Khan sped northbound in the southbound lane of Deer Park Avenue, he then struck a Honda SUV occupied by two teenagers, causing their vehicle to spin out, authorities said.

Khan then continued driving northbound through the intersection of Grand Boulevard when he crashed head-on into a Toyota RAV4 occupied by a man and woman in their 70s, prosecutors said. 

The impact from the collision caused both vehicles to slam into other cars that were waiting at the traffic light, officials said. 

A 2020 Honda Civic was also struck by a tire that came off one of the vehicles, police said.

The elderly couple had to be extracted from their vehicle with the "Jaws of Life" before being taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for facial and spinal fracture surgeries, authorities said.

The teenagers and the driver of the Acura were treated at the same hospital for minor injuries.

Investigators later determined that Khan's driving was impaired by marijuana, prosecutors said.
