The New York State Police are asking the public for assistance regarding an early morning shooting on the Southern State Parkway in Wantagh.
State troopers need help "identifying any witnesses or obtaining dash camera footage," as they investigate a shooting that occurred between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Sunday on the eastbound Southern State between Exit 28 to the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway and Exit 28A to Wantagh Avenue, the state police said in a news release.
No one was injured, state police spokesperson Trooper Brittany Burton told Newsday on Monday. The shooting occurred between two motorists and resulted in at least one bullet striking one of the vehicles. Police are not releasing a description of the vehicle hit by gunfire "at this moment because of the investigation," Burton said.
It was not immediately clear, Burton added, if the shooting was considered targeted or a random act. It was also unclear if the shooting occurred during a road rage incident. A description of the shooter's vehicle was not immediately available.
State troopers ask anyone who witnessed the shooting, was traveling in the area around that time or has other relevant information to call Investigator Jeffrey Shillingford at 212-814-9597.
