A Seaford man has been arrested for allegedly going out to his backyard Thursday evening to yell “I will kill you” and obscenities at 5- and 6-year-olds playing sports at a neighboring elementary school, according to court papers.

The man, Michael Marron, 66, was charged Friday with endangering the welfare of a child and making terroristic threats, according to a news release from the Nassau County Police Department. A judge Saturday freed him but ordered him to stay away, according to a county district attorney spokeswoman, who sent a copy of a charging document.

“These actions caused all sports teams to move fields away,” according to the charging document, signed by Detective Matthew J. Sutch. One parent told the police that her 5-year-old son, as a result of what Marron yelled, was so afraid that the boy refused to go to school and feared Marron. Marron is a former neighbor of the boy, the document said. The principal told the police that a school psychologist had to counsel the fearful 5- and 6-year-old students; security had to be adjusted; outdoor activities and events canceled; and recess moved indoors.

There have been “prior incidents and interactions” with Marron, the document said.

On Saturday, he was freed without bail at an arraignment before Nassau District Court Judge Renta Irwin, according to the spokeswoman, Nicole Turso. The release conditions include electric monitoring and orders of protection, she said. The case is due back in court June 3. He was represented by the Legal Aid Society, which does not comment to the press.

Phone numbers listed in public records for Marron either rang unanswered, were invalid or appeared to be incorrect.
