A Friday afternoon shooting involving two teens in Mastic left one in the hospital and the other in handcuffs, Suffolk police said.
About 2:36 p.m., the two teens exited a Suffolk County Transit bus on Mastic Road and "were involved in an altercation," the Suffolk County Police Department said in a news release. One of them, 15, shot the other, 17, before fleeing on foot, the release said.
The victim was transported to a hospital with injuries considered serious but not life-threatening, according to the release.
The alleged shooter, who police have not identified because he is a minor, was arrested "a short time later," police said. He was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He will be arraigned Saturday at Suffolk County Family Court in Central Islip.
Detectives ask anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
