Syosset man charged with burglary, assault, after entering home

Police charged a man with burglary and attempted assault after he allegedly entered a house in Syosset and struck a man with a chair Saturday night.

According to Nassau County police, Jason He, 56, of Syosset, entered a house on Kathleen Drive East in Syosset shortly before midnight through an unlocked door.

An argument ensued between He and two people inside the house, a 57-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman, and He allegedly hit the man with a chair and fled the scene, police sad.

Police did not provide details about how seriously the man was injured or whether the suspect knew the victims.

Police responding to a 911 call arrested He a short time later. He was charged with burglary, attempted assault, menacing, harassment and possession of a deadly weapon, which a police spokesperson said was the chair.

He pleaded not guilty in District Court in Hempstead on Sunday to charges of first-degree burglary with a dangerous instrument, attempted assault with intent to cause injury, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment.

Judge Maxine Sonya Broderick released him without bail, but ordered him to stay away from his alleged victims.

The Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, which represents He, did not respond to a call seeking comment.
