Nassau police launch homicide probe after man found dead on Uniondale street

Nassau police detectives are conducting a homicide investigation after officers responding to a 911 call reporting someone in need of assistance found a man dead on a street in Uniondale early Monday.

Police said the 911 call was received at 4:05 a.m. on Nassau Road near the Southern State Parkway.

Citing the ongoing investigation, police declined to provide details.

But police confirmed the victim, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene by a police medic — and confirmed Homicide Squad detectives are investigating.

Police finally opened the parking lot where the incident is believed to have started at about 12:45 p.m.

One resident of nearby Roosevelt, Andre McLean, said he was familiar with the area and spoke from the parking lot Monday afternoon, telling Newsday: "This seems like an isolated incident. There's been some scraps but nothing more than fights and stuff."

Calls to businesses located in the strip mall shopping center either went unanswered or were not immediately returned Monday.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 911 or contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
