Most public school students on Long Island will resume classes ahead of Labor Day, which falls on Sept. 7 this year.
In New York, public schools must offer at least 180 instructional days. Putting a school calendar together often requires careful consideration, as many districts over the years have added holidays such as the Lunar New Year, Diwali, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.School officials must also account for snow days.
