1 person killed after car leaves road, bursts into flames in Port Washington, police say

One person was killed early Monday in a single-vehicle crash on West Shore Road in Port Washington, police said.
The crash occurred at about 2:20 a.m., between Seaview Boulevard and Fairway Drive. The area is bordered by Hempstead Harbor and Harbor Links Golf Course north of Northern Boulevard, police said.
Responding officers found the sedan had left the northbound roadway and was engulfed in flames, police said. The fire was extinguished by firefighters from the Port Washington Fire Department.
The sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver has not been identified.
The road was closed for about six hours for the investigation. Police are asking anyone with information on the identity of the driver or the circumstances of the crash to call detectives at 516-883-0500.
