Nineteen men. Four women. Two states.
Over a nearly three-year period, 23 people have been charged with crimes tied to contact with a Patchogue girl whose weekslong disappearance culminated in January with her father finding her on a rundown yacht.
The girl, now 15, has been certified by state officials as a trafficked person, entitling her to support services. Newsday is not identifying her.
Along with a story that investigates the cases and what they say about the scourge of sex trafficking on Long Island, Newsday is publishing this grid of the various criminal defendants.
Below each photo is a synopsis of the person's alleged involvement and the status of their criminal case.
Six people, including four in Minnesota, have pleaded guilty to offenses including sex abuse and criminal sexual conduct. The remaining defendants have pleaded not guilty to felony charges for rape and drug possession, as well as a potential life sentence for first-degree kidnapping for three defendants.
