A fire heavily damaged a Massapequa home, injured two firefighters and displaced four residents Saturday night, officials said.
About 100 firefighters eventually responded to the residential fire at 348 Clocks Blvd., which was called in about 6:20 p.m., Capt. David Maickel of the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office said in a news release.
Both the two-story building and an attached garage were on fire when the first round of responders from the Massapequa Fire Department arrived at the scene.
Firefighters from Copiague, Amityville, Wantagh, Seaford, Bethpage and North Massapequa assisted in putting out the fire, Maickel said. The Nassau Fire Marshal Hazardous Materials Division also responded because of the presence of lithium-ion batteries in the home's garage.
No residents were injured, but one firefighter was taken to the hospital for possible heat exhaustion, while a second was transported for a minor fall at the scene, Massapequa fire officials said by phone.
The road remained closed as of shortly before 9 p.m., and the cause of the fire is still being investigated by the Nassau Fire Marshal’s Office and the county's Police Department Arson/Bomb Squad, Maickel said.
