A body was retrieved Tuesday morning from waters off North Woodmere Park, the Nassau police said.

Officers responded to the park about 11:05 a.m. following a report of "an unknown person seen floating in the water," the Nassau County Police Department said in a news release. Officers recovered the individual, who was declared dead by a Nassau County Police Medic at the scene.

An investigation remains underway, police said. Additional information, including the person's identity and whether criminality was suspected in their death, was not released late Tuesday.
