An early-morning fire that swept through a one-story ranch-style home in Hicksville Thursday left one person hospitalized and four residents displaced, fire officials said
Firefighters from Hicksville arrived just after 5:30 a.m. and found "heavy fire" through the roof and one resident unconscious on the front stoop, Nassau County Assistant Chief Fire Marshal Andrew Schmitt Jr. said in a news release.
The resident was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow suffering from smoke inhalation and possible burns, officials said. The resident's condition was not immediately known.
Schmitt said about 75 firefighters from Hicksville, Syosset, Bethpage, Westbury, Plainview, Jericho, Farmingdale, Levittown and Glenwood — all under the command of Hicksville Chief Christopher Wright — brought the blaze under control in about an hour.
Investigators from the fire marshal's office and the Nassau police Arson/Bomb Squad are trying to determine the cause of the fire and said the home is uninhabitable.
