Woman, 62, in critical condition after hit-and-run in Lawrence, police say

A 62-year-old woman was critically injured when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver Saturday night in Lawrence, Nassau County police said.
The unidentified woman was crossing Burnside Avenue near Washington Place at 7:35 p.m. when she was struck by a dark-colored SUV operated by an unknown person, police said. The vehicle then fled west on Burnside Avenue, police said.
The pedestrian was transported to a hospital where she was listed in critical condition, police said, adding that the investigation was ongoing.
