10 residents displaced after fire damages Massapequa Park home

Ten people were displaced after a garage fire spread to and badly damaged a Massapequa Park home Tuesday night.
Nassau County Fire Marshal Michael Uttaro said five adults and five children lived in the house and escaped on their own.
No one was injured, he said in a news release.
Massapequa firefighters responded to the 911 call about 8:20 p.m. and found "heavy fire" in the garage.
About 80 firefighters from Massapequa and four neighboring departments brought the fire under control in an hour, but officials determined that the attached house was uninhabitable.
Massapequa Park Village Building Department officials evaluated the house, which had working smoke detectors. The house’s occupants will stay with a relative, according to the release.
