Battery fire in Syosset home displaces 4 people

Overcharged batteries likely caused a Sunday morning fire in the garage of a Syosset home, displacing four people, fire officials said.
No one was injured in the blaze that started at 4:33 a.m. in the two-story private home on Cambria Road, the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office said in an email. The Red Cross was not required.
A nor'easter, which brought about coastal flooding, extensive blackouts and toppled trees to Long Island this weekend, did not seem to play a role in the fire, officials said.
Fire officials did not immediately detail what type of battery may have sparked the fire, which the fire marshal’s office said firefighters from the Jericho, Bethpage, Plainview and Westbury departments contained in 20 minutes.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office and Police Arson/Bomb Squad are investigating.
