A West Hempstead house fire Tuesday afternoon displaced two occupants and claimed the lives of two dogs inside, according to the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office.
The Franklin Square & Munson Fire Department received a 1:54 p.m. call regarding a fire at a two-story residence on Nassau Boulevard, Capt. David Maickel of the fire marshal's office said in a news release.
Firefighters first on the scene encountered a blaze on the home’s second story. The home’s smoke alarms had activated.
Additional information, including whether the two occupants were home at the time or the extent of damage to the home, was not immediately available.
The fire was under control within 30 minutes, the release said. Firefighters from West Hempstead, Garden City Park, Hempstead, Malverne, Uniondale and Valley Stream responded to the blaze.
The Nassau Fire Marshal’s Office and the Nassau Police Department Arson/Bomb Squad are investigating the cause of the fire, Maickel said. The Town of Hempstead Building Department was also on scene.
