Retired NYPD Officer Elena Crowley, 53, of Wantagh, struck and killed by pickup truck, police say

A retired NYPD officer is dead after she was struck by a pickup truck while crossing the street in Wantagh on Monday, police said.
A 57-year-old man was driving a 2025 GMC pickup truck west on Lufberry Avenue when he turned south onto Briard Street and struck Elena Crowley, 53, of Wantagh, at about 5:22 p.m, according to Nassau County police.
Crowley was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. She retired from the NYPD in 2021, that department said.
The driver of the GMC remained at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.
