 BACKGROUND

  • Kuhn, 38, of Bohemia, is a registered Republican running on the Republican and Conservative lines for the Islip Town Board's 2nd District, which is currently held by Republican James O'Connor. This is Kuhn's first run for public office.
  • Kuhn holds multiple college degrees. They include a master's degree in urban development and public administration from Brooklyn College, and another master's from Columbia University in quantitative methods and social sciences.
  • Kuhn is chief of staff for Suffolk County Legis. Anthony Piccirillo (R-Holtsville) and previously held that position for O'Connor in Islip. She also holds leadership roles in multiple political organizations, including the Town of Islip Republican Committee.

ISSUES

  • Kuhn said she wants to "hold the line on taxes" in Islip. She believes young people are being priced out of Long Island and seeks to mitigate that by not adding to the town's portion of the tax bill.
  • She wants to use data to increase government efficiency. Kuhn mentioned creating data portals for Islip's planning department to make it easier for residents to understand and track town zoning decisions.
  • Kuhn opposes "overdevelopment," particularly large developments in Bohemia. She said "I just love suburbia and it's deeply concerning that these monstrosities are being built and proposed in my neighborhood."
