BACKGROUND

  • Karen Bhatia, 49, of Roslyn Heights, is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election.

  • She has worked as a tech strategist for the New York City Economic Development Corporation and is a professor at Stanford University’s New York program and a visiting practitioner at Cornell Tech.  
  • She said she graduated from Stanford University. Bhatia also received a master’s degree from Harvard University and a juris doctorate from George Washington Law University.    

ISSUES

  • Bhatia said she aims to modernize technology, such as creating updated websites, to improve accessibility to government services.
  • She said she wants to address cost-of-living expenses in part by reducing the fees Nassau County charges residents, along with revamping the county’s property tax assessment system.
  • She said she wants to improve infrastructure that contributes to dangerous road conditions, unsafe drinking water and high bacteria levels along Long Island’s shorelines.
