BACKGROUND
- Murray, 63, of Levittown, is a registered Republican and is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election. She is seeking a fourth term.
- She was elected a state assemblywoman in 1998 and was elected Hempstead Town Clerk in 2001. She was elected Hempstead Town Supervisor in 2003 and served until 2016.
- Murray received an undergraduate degree in English literature from Boston College and a law degree from Suffolk University School of Law in Boston.
ISSUES
- Murray said her priority is to cut costs in the clerk’s office by reducing staffing levels while expanding services to constituents.
- She said she would expand the town’s child ID program to increase the number of schools it visits annually. The voluntary service creates an ID kit for parents to store among their important papers that includes a Polaroid photo, fingerprints and a lock of hair in case there is ever a need to accurately identify their child.
- A senior ID program that creates cards containing medication and health information that can be used by first responders in emergency situations would also be expanded, she said.
