BACKGROUND

  • Kennedy, 69, of Nesconset, a registered Republican, was elected to the county legislature in 2015. She is chair of the legislature’s Health Committee, vice chair of its Ways & Means Committee and vice chair of the Budget & Finance Committee. She is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines.

  • Before joining the legislature, she worked in government for more than a decade as a legislative aide to Suffolk County Legis. Donald Blydenburgh and as an aide to Suffolk County Legis. John Kennedy.
  • She is a member of the Suffolk County Disabilities Task Force, the Suffolk County Addiction Prevention Advisory Board, the Suffolk County Teen Pregnancy Advisory Board, and the chair of the Lake Ronkonkoma Advisory Board. 

ISSUES

  • Kennedy said she is most concerned about affordability and the quality of life for Suffolk County residents and would continue to focus on those issues. She authored legislation to fight drag racing in the Hauppauge Industrial Park and surrounding areas.
  • Preservation of the environment also tops her agenda. She supported streambed remediation for tributaries of the Nissequogue River.
  • She advocated for sewer construction in downtown Smithtown and would maintain her focus on sewer construction in Smithtown, Centereach and Seldon.
