BACKGROUND

  • Chafiian, a registered Democrat, is running on the Democratic Party line. She grew up in Lawrence, and is a long term resident of the district, having lived in Kings Point, Saddle Rock and the Village of Great Neck
  • She received her bachelor's from Tulane University and is a graduate of the George Washington School of Law. She has been working as an attorney in private practice since graduating law school, with a practice including commercial litigation, coverage defense and coverage opinions.
  • Some of the litigation she has been involved with include large corporations, such as Enron-related banks, AT&T, eBay and Bear Stearns/J.P. Morgan

ISSUES

  • Chafiian said she understands that the district deserves a representative who is available to them and who will take the time to understand and respond to their needs. She said she will collaborate with county, state, and federal partners to improve District 5 and to provide them the services they request and deserve.
  • She said she wants focus on improving Infrastructure, including but not limited to lighting, paving, sidewalks, signage and sewage. She also wants to upgrade the building and public safety departments. 
  • Affordability is a top issue for Chafiian. She said she wants to focus on expanding grants and tax deductions to make the community more affordable and attractive for everyone, from young families to seniors.
