BACKGROUND

• O'Connell, 74, is a registered Republican seeking reelection on the Republican and Conservative lines. She was first elected to the seat of County Clerk in 2006. 
• She has a bachelor's degree from St. Joseph's College, a law degree from St. John's University and a nursing degree from the Flushing Hospital School of Nursing.
• O'Connell also served in the New York State Assembly from 1998 to 2005, and as deputy mayor and trustee for the Incorporated Village of East Williston from 1991 to 1998.

ISSUES

• O'Connell said she would work to prevent tax and fee hikes by ensuring county operations are efficient.
