  • He previously worked for the Suffolk County Water Authority for 34 years in various jobs. During his career there, he also represented SCWA employees as president of Utility Workers Union of America, Local 393, for 14 years.

ISSUES

  • He supports the county's initiatives to expand sewer service to homes and businesses. "Sewers are the key to so many different issues," such as protecting the environment while promoting new restaurants, hotels and housing, he said.
  • Caracappa supported a bill passed in 2024 by the legislature that changes the income requirements for certain types of affordable housing to make it easier to buy a home. He also supported a newly enacted law that allows the county to cut funding to landlords receiving rental payments through the Department of Social Services if the properties they own do not comply with local building and zoning codes.
  • He said he favors responsible spending and staying within the state tax cap. "I’m sure every [county] department could be trimmed," he said, adding that he believes all department heads are "doing a great job" controlling spending.
