BACKGROUND
- Strauss, 62 of Mineola, a registered Republican, is a retired NYPD detective from the Emergency Service Unit. He is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines.
- He was awarded the NYPD’s Medal of Honor for his heroism at Ground Zero as a 9/11 first responder.

He is a member of the Mineola Volunteer Fire Department since 1981 and has served as chief. He is a life member of Mineola’s Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and is active in multiple professional and community organizations.
ISSUES
- Strauss said his plans for protecting public safety include hiring more police officers, increasing police presence in the community, supporting first responders, and ensuring law enforcement has the resources to fight crime.
- He said he supports tax-freeze budgets and would work to ensure fiscal responsibility so Nassau residents can keep more of their hard-earned money.
- Protecting the suburbs is a priority for Strauss, who said he would oppose policies that would urbanize local communities.
