BACKGROUND
- Flotteron, 63, of Brightwaters, is a registered Republican and is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election. He was elected to the legislature in 2017 and serves as deputy presiding officer and chair of the budget and finance committee as well as the public safety committee. He has nearly 20 years of town and county government experience.
- He is a member of the Addiction Prevention Support Panel, Criminal Justice Coordinating Council and Environmental Trust Review Board. For more than 35 years, he has run his insurance practice.
- Floterron has focused on securing the county’s economic stability and improving the Wastewater Management Program. He said he also recently collaborated with local veteran organizations and the Islip Arts Council on a project to help raise awareness for mental health through art.
ISSUES
- Flotteron said he will continue to focus on further improvements in county parks, public safety, bottom-line finances, reducing costs and further improving the bond rating.
- He said the county’s aquifer water quality is most important to him. He plans to continue working with the county health department and the Department of Public Works on a multiyear project with the U.S. Geological Survey to monitor and study five rivers within the county to provide a plan to protect groundwater resources and to improve the health of tributaries and bays they feed into.
- Another priority, said Flotteron, is making sure responsible parties have the tools they need to continue keeping Suffolk County one of the safest places to live in the United States.
