BACKGROUND
- McKevitt, 54, of East Meadow, is a registered Republican and is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election. He is seeking a fifth term and is the legislature’s deputy presiding officer.
- He is an attorney and has practiced law privately in Nassau County. He was a deputy town attorney for the Town of Hempstead before representing New York State Assembly District 17 from 2006 to 2017, and was the assembly’s Minority Leader Pro Tempore.
- He earned a bachelor of arts degree in social sciences from Hofstra University in Hempstead and a juris doctor law degree from Hofstra Law School. He is a member of the East Meadow Kiwanis Club and coaches the Holy Trinity High School mock trial team.
ISSUES
- McKevitt said he has consistently voted to hold the line on taxes, resulting in budget surpluses and tax relief for local homeowners.
- He said he has supported funding for expanded crime-fighting technology and increased police patrols by the Nassau County Police Department.
- McKevitt said he has “stood with county and town officials to oppose the state’s efforts to override or diminish local control over zoning and housing decisions.”
