BACKGROUND

  • Neely, 70, of Sag Harbor, is a registered Democrat and is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election.
  • He was vice president at Hampton Jitney from 1987 to 2004. He was the transportation and traffic safety director for the town of Southampton from 2005 to 2021.
  • In 2022, he started as a transportation consultant and was appointed to the town planning board for Southampton.

ISSUES

  • Neely said he wants to focus on the township’s traffic and transportation issues. He wants to expand the South Fork Commuter Connection, a service he said he helped to plan and implement with the Long Island Rail Road, and wants to consider replacing some traffic signals with roundabouts.
  • He wants to work with the state government to "get the Long Island Rail Road" to start making improvements. He said the LIRR has $262 million in their capital budget for rail improvements on the South Fork.
  • Neely said he wants to regulate how much clearing can be done on property, in order to "keep our land preserved."
