BACKGROUND

  • Colavita, 46, of Huntington, is a registered Democrat running on the Democratic Party line. This is his first time running for elected office.

  • He worked in technology at a Manhattan law firm and previously worked as a paralegal.

  • He received a bachelor’s degree in history from LIU Post and a master’s degree in information and digital resource management from Columbia University.

ISSUES

  • Colavita said he would run the department with professionalism and fiscal responsibility by seeking additional revenue sources without raising taxes and making sure employees have access to training and career advancement opportunities.
  • He said he would be proactive in making sure roads are repaired in a timely and efficient manner, make sure paving is done in a strategic, purposeful manner and stayvon top of storm mitigation.
  • Any work done within the department should keep the environment in mind, including care for the watershed as it relates to street sweeping and drains, as well as pedestrians and bicyclists, he said.
