A fire heavily damaged a service station in Garden City Park Sunday night, authorities said.

Firefighters received a 911 call for a building fire at the BP Gas and Service Station on Jericho Turnpike and arrived to find the building and its three garage bays fully engulfed in flames. One car was also ablaze, the Nassau County fire marshal's office said.

An immediate second alarm was transmitted, bringing 75 firefighters from 14 companies to the scene.

They brought the fire under control in less than an hour. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, the fire marshal's office said.

Fire marshal investigators were on the scene along with Nassau arson detectives; the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Town of North Hempstead Building Department was notified.

Hazardous materials experts from the state and Nassau County were evaluating runoff from the station to minimize any environmental impact, officials said.
