Center Moriches girl, 12, struck, seriously injured by Jeep

A 12-year-old Center Moriches girl was struck by a Jeep Wrangler on Thursday afternoon in the hamlet and airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries, the Suffolk County Police Department said.
About 3:05 p.m., the girl was crossing Main Street near Clinton Street in downtown Center Moriches when the westbound 2015 Jeep hit her, the Suffolk police said in a news release.
She was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of injuries considered serious, but not life-threatening, police said. Authorities impounded the Jeep for a safety check.
Main Street remained closed for several hours following the crash, from Newins Street to the west and Clinton Street to the east, but has since reopened.
Suffolk police detectives ask anyone with information regarding the crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555.
